I’m not sure why, but the Spirit within has wanted me to stop writing on here. What happens now needs to be between my Gods and me. I have already stopped writing so much and I thought I owed it to everybody to have one more post before I go.

Spiritually, I have stepped through a door and it is dark. I’m not sure what lies ahead. I’ve never felt like this before but I must keep listening intuitively and thinking with my heart. I suppose I did not eventually feel connected to my own practice when I felt like I wanted to take pictures all the time to share on here. I suppose that my poems, once between me and the Goddess, I started to look at too much to see what I could share. Sometimes, we over-extend ourselves in trying to spread out little pieces of our souls in hopes of helping others. I want to take the ego out of my intentions, too.

What I am supposed to be doing: Singing alone and to others. Painting alone and for others. Counseling myself and for others. Feeding myself and for others. But I need to take back my writing and my magick, for the time being and be alone with it. It needs to stay in solitude. It needs to be humbled and dynamic. It needs to be my own secret. It is the womb of my own creativity and the womb is dark like the black soil that supports all new growth.

If you have ever read my blog and was in anyway inspired- I am so glad. If you have ever liked or commented- I am so appreciative. I am also thankful to my husband, who supports every journey I partake in. Talking to the outside world has been good for me. Growing up in a family of hermits I did not know how to stretch myself into opening up to the world. Writing this blog has been a wonderful adventure that has helped baby-step me into performing on stage and connecting with people from all over the world. So thank you- thank you for being a part of this experience. Maybe someday, when I’m an old woman who has already experienced what the world has to offer and the Spirits tell me I’m ready- I will be back. But for now, I welcome simplicity,  I welcome the light of true fire to warm me. Let my thoughts be my own.

Brightest Blessings, Cicada

I have been excitingly excited over my summer thus far…. thus the unicorn picture of Tulie (lindsey) is deserving of the top spot.  Lughnasadh night was a wonderful time to relax by bonfire with my sabbatt sisters under the stars playing drums and dreaming of underworld animals… but first that day was filled with:

Meandering our way through city streets:

Our new band, Moon Folk, playing for the runners of a race:

Cooking up harvest foods:

Playing marco-polo in cornfields:

Honoring our own personal harvests and blessing our current crops in ritual:

And finally! We get to relax by the fire:

Hey everyone who reads my blog! I’ve got exciting news to share with you… After years of songwriting, trance chanting, child lullabying, melody dreaming and noise making I am finally part of a band with my two friends JJ and Tulie (Lindsey)!

We are Moon Folk.  (<<<Facebook page)

And we are beginning to post up YouTube Videos, too! We’ve started to put up chants first and when we get through all of those we will post up our songs, too.

Here is one:

(I’m the one wearing white).

I’ve been so busy rerecording my songs to send to people I know, getting band practices going (still hoping to find someone who knows how to play an instrument other then the drum), finding hidden beach side drum circles, chasing my kiddies around, wading in cold streams and meditating the summer away in my hammock that I’m losing track of the days. I hope you all are having a blessed summer, too!

Last Thursday my friends and I were requested to spiritually clean someone’s house. A house can have disruptive energy for a variety of reasons: unwelcome spirits attracted there by a family’s disharmony, residual energy left over from earlier residents, displeased land spirits, and so on and so on.

My friends and I have been doing spirit work for 17 years but we have never cleansed a whole building on such a large scale before… so it was a wonderful experience to learn how to tackle multiple things at once. The owners of the house complained of projects being constantly put on hold or things happening where they would have to start all over again in house construction (they were trying to redo some of the house to get it ready to sell these last few months). Their children were also experiencing frightening visions, manifestations and feelings from unwelcome supernatural activity.

We cleansed the house in three steps: First we did a walk through of the entire house with our psychic “feelers”. This brought an array of heavy emotions and thoughts as we went from room to room. There were specific spots that felt more extreme then others. Second, we set up an area to communicate. This is something that we have had extensive experience in and have developed naturally and intuitively over the years (I still have yet to read a book on how others say I should do it… but I am not necessarily suggesting this as we have also learned the hard way of what not to do!). We met with skull faced tricksters and departed family members. We received messages of past owners and intuitive insights into the current family dynamics.

Finally, it was time to put to action the cleanse. From room to room we walked, blessing each room with purifying palo santo smoke, sacred moon water, sage smudge and loving words to the house. A Hecate altar was set up in the cellar, seemingly the source for the house’s oldest disruptive spirit activity. (The house was over 100 years old). A white mist began to swirl around our altar and after a few minutes you could feel a wonderful shift. Each level of the house was dealt with differently depending on what kind of energy we felt there. Healing energy was sent into certain residual energy spots that whispered a memory of abuse from previous owners. The family and the house were both blessed as we called in our own guides and deities we work with.

Once the whole house resonated with a lighter vibration we pushed out any other un-welcomed harmful guests by a specific energy bubble technique and had the mother of the house set the boundaries. Any spirit activity that was not harmful was allowed through, but everything else was pushed out. Positivity was put into motion and the family was very pleased.

After these past days the family has reported a dramatic shift in how they feel when in the house. The house has not been on the market yet to sell, but already over the weekend they had an offer when they were not even trying yet to sell it! The family knows that they need to continue the positivity set into motion and I hope the very best for them all! I didn’t take any pictures as sometimes the camera can be seen as disruptive by some spirits.

singing and drumming in front of around 500 people or so.. no biggie

This summer solstice the family and I traveled to PSG for a week long adventure in pagan community, music, celebration, ritual and camping hosted by Circle Sanctuary. It was my 5th time attending and once again I found that a great love and understanding permeated every interaction that I came across. The first time I attended, I lost my phone card and someone tracked me down just to give it to me again. I can leave a folding chair anywhere for a whole day and not worry about someone taking it (very different from my own front yard!).

Besides a great deal of trust that flows throughout the festival, it is wonderful to see how our pagan community really works. Activists, musicians and pagan leaders are accessible (I chatted with activist Patrick McCollum, author Loren Cruden, musician Arthur Hinds, some members of Spiral Rhythm, pagan leader Selena Fox and the editor of Circle Magazine,  for example). Also, if you, yourself has a special talent, you are encouraged to make a contribution. No where will you find more of a safe and supportive environment to let your talents shine. Last year I attended a chant circle and shared some of my own original chants. I received such a strong, positive feedback that this year many were looking out for me specifically to hear more of my songs! A few even sang some of my chants back to me and told me that they had been sharing it with others all year!!

This year I found the courage within me to sing an original song on-stage at the talent show (probably around 500 people in the audience). That’s us in the picture!! This is only the second time I have sang on stage (the first was when I sang the Cranberries song, Zombie for a neighborhood block party). My two friends JJ and Tulie got up there with me to accompany me with their voices part of the time and a djembe and a rattle and we rocked!!! So much so, we are deciding to start a band!!! Youtube videos are shortly in my future so that others can use my chants if they wish and I’m sure my friends will be joining me singing a few of them. Side note: if you are close to the Quad Cities Illinois area, can play an instrument and are wanting to take part- LET ME KNOW!!!

I feel so blessed to be part of this amazing community. As Pagans and Wiccans, we are all making history as we are some of the first generations to be part of this growing earth-based religion!

I am feeling myself emerging from my cocoon with new wings and ideas. New definitions of who I am and what the world is have begun to sprout and soon I will be taking my first flight into unknown territories.

bel fire

Since Beltane night I have been exploring what it is to journey with transformation in mind. All of us evolve and shift our ideas and actions over our life times. Welcoming growth and life-affirming change is needed on a continual basis in order to stay away from the stagnant waters of our soul.

So what have I been doing? Well, let me tell you who I used to be at 13… I was a wild child of the woods, a fierce lover of anyone I could get my hands on and make-believer in the true world of unseen mystery. I sneaked out during summers to see the heat lightning dance above the fields. I stole away to ponds and rivers to write poetry and make my offerings of teenage kisses to nymph queens and kings.

And then I became older (wiser?)… all of the things I thought I was working for came to be: married my perfect man, had our perfect kids and a part of me became paranoid that something that was so wild in me was too impulsive for my comfy home life. But the wildness has never left me- I don’t think it can- it comes out in my laughter, tears, blood and sweat and magic. It reminds me in the thunder’s song as I try to sleep at night. It haunts me until I let it out through my art, my writing, my songs, my fierce fire when I become outraged about a worldly injustice. (Seriously, what is going on out there??)

Facing my fears of wild… Cougars have begun to roam again in Illinois again, too. After over 100 years they are back. The chances of running into one is rare. The chance of being killed by one is even rarer (19 people have been killed in the last 100 years). However, a fear so deep has struck me. I have been finding myself scared to go into the woods alone lately- but my wildness refuses to leave me alone. My body aches to be out among the dense trees- listening to their mysteries. I have decided that to live a life away from the woods is no life for me. So I have studied on how to act if I see a cougar  (don’t make eye contact, walk away slow but never turn your back) and if one tries to attack (act like a crazy wild animal and scream at it). If I end up eaten at least I tried to really live my life how I need to and my body can become part of the woods again.

Oh, so and now I hear news that my county is under a tornado watch….

Here is a sneak peak of some magic I have been working on lately… More info on that soon! Happy 100th post to me!
